Dental Check-ups

Dental check-up involves a thorough examination of all the teeth, gums, soft tissue in the mouth and the external muscles of the head and neck.

Caries, wearing of teeth, stains, soft tissue lesions, gum recession, impacted teeth, jaw joint problems which is temporomandibular joint are some of the possible findings which may be noted and explained to you by our dentist.

Our dentist recommends that you get a check-up at least every 6 months to keep your oral health at its best.

Finally our dentist will discuss the findings and the possible treatment options and the costs involved with your dental treatments.

Fluoride dental treatment

Dental fluoride is the most effective agent to help with tooth decay. Dental fluoride is part of our everyday living, but sometimes not concentrated enough to prevent tooth decay in susceptible people. It is present in 90% drinking water in Victoria and has proven to reduce risk of dental decay.

The Dentist usually recommends in chair dental fluoride treatments for people with

  • Active and early dental caries
  • Exposed and sensitive root surfaces
  • Dry mouth, Xerostomia due to medical conditions or due to various medications
  • During orthodontic dental treatment
  • Topical dental fluoride works by penetrating into the outer surface of the tooth called enamel making it harder and resist dissolution in mouth.

X Rays

Dental X-Ray go hand in hand with a dental check-up, as it provides information which the dentist can’t see. It helps the dentist to detect hidden problems which may get bigger if remain undetected and complete an accurate treatment plan.

We recommend chair side set of two Bitewing X rays once every two years for detailed exam of teeth & an OPG  X ray once every 3 years for overall examination of jaw bones & teeth

Scale & Clean

Removal of calculus also called Tartar & plaque, which has been present on the teeth for some period of time. Removal of Stains e.g., caused from coffee, tea, smoking etc.

Oral Hygiene Education

Educational information meant to teach and guide patients to prevent new cavities, and to maintain healthy teeth and gums.

Sports Mouthguards

They can reduce the risk of dental injuries. Sports, leisure and recreation activities are the most common cause of dental injuries.

Specifically caters for the dental needs of children of all ages from infants to teenagers. Striving to ensure that a child begins his/her dental experience in a positive and happy manner that will carry through to their adult years.

Children’s teeth should be regularly checked and this will help the child to get into a good routine for the rest of their life. We recommend their first check-up after their first Birthday so that they can get used to dentist & surroundings. This helps them overcome any fears of going to the dentist.

Losing Primary or baby teeth early can have functional & orthodontic implications

Home Whitening (Bleaching)

Whitening of teeth is performed for patients who desire a brighter smile. Teeth whitening can be performed to reduce discoloration and staining, or simply to provide the patient with whiter, brighter teeth.

Tooth coloured fillings

Composite resin fillings can be placed in the back as well as front teeth. Composites are the solution for restoring decayed or fractured teeth, making cosmetic improvements and even changing the colour of teeth or reshaping teeth. We are a Dental Amalgam free Dental Practice.

Grinding of teeth during night time, an improper bite, age, tooth decay are the contributing factors in wearing down, cracking or fracture of teeth. Dental crowns/caps cover the entire visible surface of affected tooth and give it strength and stability & protection from fracturing. Dental crowns can give you good service if there is proper oral hygiene, regular dental check-ups and a diet low in sugar.

It is a false tooth or teeth to fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth. They are supported by natural teeth or implants.

These are thin shells of composite or porcelain bonded to individual teeth. They are used for treatment of enamel discoloration caused by staining, ageing, or chemical damage to teeth. Some of the more common causes of teeth discoloration are medications, coffee, tea or cigarettes. They can also be used to correct gaps in teeth, correction of shape & size of teeth etc.

Veneers can be made from composite resin or porcelain. Composite resin can be done in a single appointment, but it can stain, discolour and requires maintenance. Porcelain veneers require two or more appointments, but do not stain and are more aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Dr Puneeta provides services for this branch of Dentistry.

It is used to correct teeth & jaws that are positioned improperly. Braces use mild forces to move the teeth to achieve desired teeth alignment. Braces can be either done for cosmetic or structural reasons. We use special software to assess and model the braces to meet each patient’s needs. There are tiny canals within your tooth that may become infected. This leads to the pulp inside your tooth also becoming infected as well. Your dentist will remove any infection and performs the root canal procedure. The canals are cleaned and then filled and the tooth receives either a filling or a crown.

Extracting the tooth will be a cheaper way out, but if possible root canal should be the preferred treatment option.

By removing the tooth, the following issues can arise:

  • Drifting of adjacent & opposing teeth
  • Bone loss in the extracted area, appearance & functional issues

Dentures are removable replacements for missing teeth typically made out of an acrylic resin which at times incorporate metal for additional structural support.

Dentures can either be partial denture replacing some teeth or a full denture replacing all the teeth.

Dentures help in restoring function of the teeth, aesthetics and avoid other teeth from moving. Dentures help to bite and chew properly, therefore avoiding wearing of other teeth. Dentures help in improving the appearance of the person.

About 70% of people who regularly snore also have obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in which the soft tissues in the throat, including the tongue, collapse and are sucked against the back of the throat.  This blocks the upper airway and air flow stops, or is greatly reduced.  When the blood oxygen level becomes low enough the brain sends a signal known as an arousal and the sleeper partially awakens, the obstruction in the throat clears and the flow of air starts again, usually with a gasp. Most people are not aware this is occurring.

It involves wearing a removable oral appliance( MAS) in your mouth as you sleep. The device fits much like a sports mouth guard or orthodontic retainer. An oral appliance prevents your airway from collapsing by supporting your jaw in forward position. You need to have a sleep study done in order to get this appliance made. It is also helpful for people who were unable to wear CPAP machines.

It is the removal of a tooth from the mouth. They are performed for a wide variety of reasons, usually because of disease, trauma or crowding. Sometimes few teeth requiring extraction need to be referred to Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon.
